In early August, the global coffee scene turned its focus to the Best of Panama 2025. This year’s spotlight wasn’t just about the quality of the entries. Something truly historic happened.

A lot of Washed Geisha from Hacienda La Esmeralda was auctioned for a record-breaking price of 604,080 USD, which averages around 1.1 million baht per kilogram. With only 20 kilograms in total, the value of this lot is unmatched both in price and flavor.

Scoring 98.00 from 22 international judges at the Boquete Coffee Festival, this coffee was immediately named the best in the history of Best of Panama

🏞 Why would someone pay millions for this coffee?

The short answer is because it’s unlike any other.

Hacienda La Esmeralda is a family-owned estate located in the Boquete Valley of Panama. Run by the Peterson Family, the farm consists of several unique plots such as Jaramillo, Cañas Verdes, and El Velo. Each plot has its own altitude, volcanic soil, humidity, and natural shade. These factors combine to give the Geisha variety from this farm its famously complex and artistic flavor.

Many describe the experience as drinking a floral tea with the texture of candy, infused with notes of jasmine, bergamot, and tropical fruits all in one sip.
